REGULAR PUBLIC MEETING OF THE ELOY FIRE DISTRICT BOARD
March 9, 2020
- Call to order and confirmation of quorum: A meeting of the Board was called to order by Board Chairman Belinda Akes at the Eloy Fire District Administration office, located at 4010 N. Toltec Road, Eloy, Arizona at 1800 hours on Monday, March 9, 2020. A quorum was confirmed with four members present: Tom Cortez, Edward Sauceda, Toni Lorona Carlson, and Belinda Akes.
- Pledge of allegiance. Board Chair Belinda Akes led the pledge of allegiance.
- Call to the Public: The District’s auditor, James Saunders addressed the board via speakerphone. Mr. Saunders reviewed his report on the District’s financial statements which were in compliance with accounting and auditing standards with no reportable deficiencies or material weaknesses.
- Consent Agenda:
- A. Minutes of the district meeting on February 24, 2020.
- B. Financial Statements.
- C. Approval of Warrants.
- The board members reviewed the consent agenda items. MOTION made by Toni Lorona Carlson to approve the consent agenda items; A, B, and C. SECONDED by Edward Sauceda. MOTION PASSED (4 Ayes: Akes, Cortez, Lorona Carlson, Sauceda; 0 Nays).
- Executive Session
- None.
- Business
- A. Review, discussion and possible action on request from Ruben A. Sotelo Sr. for a single parcel land annexation of parcel 511-81-0530. MOTION made by Edward Sauceda to approve the annexation of parcel 511-81-0530. SECONDED by Toni Lorona Carlson. MOTION PASSED (4 Ayes: Akes, Cortez, Lorona Carlson, Sauceda; 0 Nays).
- B. Review, discussion, and possible action on approval of an IGA with Pinal County for elections services. MOTION made by Edward Sauceda to approve the IGA with Pinal County for elections services. SECONDED by Tom Cortez. MOTION PASSED (4 Ayes: Akes, Cortez, Lorona Carlson, Sauceda; 0 Nays).
- C. Review, discussion and possible action on purchase of MultiRAE air monitoring meters. Fire Chief Kelly Weddle explained the uses for the meters and said the current ones were 10-12 years old and ready for replacement. MOTION made by Toni Lorona Carlson to approve the purchase of the meters. SECONDED by Edward Sauceda. MOTION PASSED (4 Ayes: Akes, Cortez, Lorona Carlson, Sauceda; 0 Nays).
- D. Review, discussion and possible action on setting revenue rates for upcoming 2020-2021 budget process. Chief Weddle provided information to the board regarding the District’s current and past assessed valuations, tax levies, along with an update of current challenges. Information item only.
