REGULAR PUBLIC MEETING OF THE ELOY FIRE DISTRICT BOARD
August 14, 2017
- Call to order and confirmation of quorum: A meeting of the Board was called to order by Chairman Brenda Straw at the Eloy Fire District Administration office, located at 4010 N. Toltec Road, Eloy, Arizona at 1804 hours on Monday, August 14, 2017. A quorum was confirmed with three members present: Brenda Straw, Mary Jane Damron, and Belinda Akes.
- Pledge of allegiance. Chairman Brenda Straw led the pledge of allegiance.
- Call to the Public: Chairman Brenda Straw welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending. No members of the public addressed the board.
- Special Ceremony:
- A. Promotional badge pinning. Fire Chief Kelly Weddle announced that two employees successfully completed probation and two employees were promoted.
- -Emmett Middaugh successfully completed probation and received his badge.
- -Brian Harrison successfully completed probation, but was not present.
- -Jeremy Leary was promoted to Support Services Captain and received his badge.
- -Kris Middleton was promoted to Battalion Chief and received his badge.
- B. Retirement Plaque. No action taken.
- Consent Agenda:
- A. Minutes of the regular district meeting on July 17, 2017.
- B. Financial Statements
- C. Approval of Warrants
- The Board reviewed the Minutes, Financial Statements and Warrant List. Chief Weddle discussed the status of the financials and mentioned that the salary expenses are high right now due to the impact of the PSPRS refunds and Wildland deployments. MOTION made by Belinda Akes to approve the Consent Agenda, Items A, B, and C. SECONDED by Mary Jane Damron. MOTION PASSED (3 Ayes 0 Nays).

- None.
- Business
- A. Review, discussion, and possible action on establishing a committee for replacement of Engine 521. Chief Weddle said that the front-line engine in Eloy will reach its 15 year in-service date, and is scheduled for replacement. The timeframe is to form the committee to set specifications and call for bid in December or January, and then award the bid in February or March. Chief Weddle would like to set up a lease-purchase like was done with the ladder truck, with an option for early payoff. Belinda Akes asked what would become of the current engine 521, and Chief Weddle explained that it would rotate to become the Reserve Engine, and the current reserve engine would be disposed of. MOTION made by Brenda Straw to set up a committee for replacing Engine 521. SECONDED by Mary Jane Damron. MOTION PASSED (3 Ayes, 0 Nays).
- Reports and Correspondence
- A. Fire Marshal Report: Fire Marshal Bob Poindexter presented his monthly report.
- B. Fire Chief Report: Fire Chief Kelly Weddle presented his monthly report.
- Future Agenda Items: Update on radio tower lease negotiations. Chief Weddle explained that negotiations with the new owners of the radio tower would be upcoming, and on a future agenda.
- Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned by Chairman Brenda Straw at 1833.
