REGULAR PUBLIC MEETING OF THE ELOY FIRE DISTRICT BOARD
MARCH 14, 2022
- Call to order and confirmation of quorum. A meeting of the Board was called to order by Board Chairperson Belinda Akes at the Eloy Fire District Administration office, located at 4010 N. Toltec Road, Eloy, Arizona at 1801 hours on Monday, March 14, 2022. A quorum was confirmed with four members present: Toni Lorona Carlson, Luis Ybarra, Tom Cortez, and Belinda Akes. Board members Luis Ybarra and Tom Cortez attended remotely.
- Pledge of allegiance. Board Chair Belinda Akes led the pledge of allegiance.
- Call to the Public: No members of the public addressed the board.
- Consent Agenda:
- A. Minutes of the regular district meeting on February 14, 2022.
- B. Financial Statements.
- C. Approval of Warrants.
- The Board reviewed the Minutes, Financial Statements, and Warrant List. Fire Chief Kelly Weddle reported on the District’s finances. MOTION made by Toni Lorona Carlson to approve the Consent Agenda Items A, B, and C. SECONDED by Tom Cortez. MOTION PASSED (4 Ayes: Akes, Lorona Carlson, Ybarra, and Cortez; 0 Nays).

- Business
- A. Review, discussion and possible action on purchase of Chevrolet Pickup. Chief Weddle explained the need for a replacement vehicle due to an engine failure on one of the pickups. MOTION made by Tom Cortez to approve the purchase of a Chevrolet Pickup. SECONDED by Luis Ybarra. MOTION PASSED (4 Ayes: Akes, Lorona Carlson, Ybarra, and Cortez; 0 Nays).
- B. Review, discussion and possible action on revenue presentation for new budget. Chief Weddle explained that the assessed valuation for the district will increase by 3.9%, which was less than expected. With a steady tax rate, the expected total levy increase would be about $105K, which would be an additional $10 to $30 per residence. The workers compensation pool, Securis, is expected to have significant increases estimated to be 105% due to presumptive cancer legislation and other losses. Chief Weddle explained the various actions the pool is pursuing to control the increase, as well as steps the district is taking to control expenses. Informational item only, no action taken.

- Adjournment. MOTION made by Toni Lorona Carlson to adjourn the meeting. SECONDED by Luis Ybarra. MOTION PASSED (4 Ayes: Akes, Lorona Carlson, Ybarra, and Cortez; 0 Nays). Chairperson Akes adjourned the meeting at 1833 hours.
