SPECIAL PUBLIC MEETING AND HEARING
OF THE ELOY FIRE DISTRICT BOARD
June 20, 2022
- Call to order and confirmation of quorum. A special public meeting and public hearing of the Board was called to order by Board Chairperson Belinda Akes at the Eloy Fire District Administration office, located at 4010 N. Toltec Road, Eloy, Arizona at 1801 hours on Monday, June 20, 2022. A quorum was confirmed with four members present: Tom Cortez, Luis Ybarra, Edward Sauceda, and Belinda Akes. Board Members Tom Cortez, Luis Ybarra, and Edward Sauceda attended via remote access.
- Pledge of allegiance. Board Chair Belinda Akes led the pledge of allegiance.
- Call to the Public: No members of the public addressed the board.
- Consent Agenda:
- A. Minutes of the regular district meeting on June 6, 2022.
- B. Financial Statements. None.
- C. Approval of Warrants. None.
- The Board reviewed the minutes. MOTION made by Tom Cortez to approve the consent agenda item A. SECONDED by Edward Sauceda. MOTION PASSED (4 Ayes: Akes, Sauceda, Ybarra, and Cortez; 0 Nays).
- Executive Session
- None.
- Business
- Public Hearing. Public Hearing on the fiscal year 2022-23 budget. All interested persons were invited to attend and participate. The Hearing opened and closed with no members of the public commenting or remarking on the 2022-23 budget or tax levy.
- A. Review, discussion and possible action on adopting the fiscal year 2022-23 budget and setting the tax rate/levy for fiscal year 2022-23. MOTION made by Edward Sauceda to approve the 2022-23 budget with a tax levy of $2,803,609 with an estimated tax rate of $2.3005. SECONDED by Tom Cortez. MOTION PASSED (4 Ayes: Akes, Sauceda, Ybarra, and Cortez; 0 Nays).
- B. Review, discussion and possible action on employee compensation. Fire Chief Kelly Weddle said that health insurance increased 8.5% and is asking the board to approve a 3% COLA increase for employees to begin the first pay period in July . MOTION made by Edward Sauceda to approve the 3% COLA increase. SECONDED by Tom Cortez. MOTION PASSED (4 Ayes: Akes, Sauceda, Ybarra, and Cortez; 0 Nays).

- A. Division Chief Report. None.
- B. Fire Chief Report. None.
- Future Agenda Items: At the July or August meeting a contract with ESI will be presented in order to retain retiring administrative employees.
- Adjournment. MOTION made by Tom Cortez to adjourn. SECONDED by Edward Sauceda. MOTION PASSED (4 Ayes: Akes, Sauceda, Ybarra, and Cortez; 0 Nays). The meeting was adjourned at 1809 hours.
